Nicholas Sullivan
Nick is a Financial Advisor and Financial Planning Specialist with The Palatium Group, Morgan Stanley based in Palo Alto, California. Nick and his team specialize in working with individuals who receive equity compensation to provide them with wealth management strategies that are tailored to meet their needs.
Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Nick earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Georgetown University where he double majored in finance and marketing. During his time at Georgetown he also competed on the varsity Track and Field Team as a sprinter in the 200m and 400m. During his free time he enjoys running, playing golf as well as spending time with friends and family.
Sullivan discussed his career in finances and ideas for what to do and how to prepare for college. He advised us on what to do financially and answered questions from all of our club members. Additionally he advised us on the importance of networking while also showing us how to get started. Finally he covered a variety of topics related to the finance and business world. For example someone asked what would you tell your high school self? and Sullivan responded with do not worry and stress about your future and take it one step at a time. This advice is especially relevant to Paly students because we can be subjected a large amount of high level classes, jobs, internships, sports and extracurriculars.
Jon McAuliffe
Jon McAuliffe is a co-founder and Chief Investment Officer of Voleon, heading the firm’s investment-strategy research and development. Jon is also Adjunct Professor of Statistics at the UC Berkeley. His research focuses on theory and methodology for large-scale data analysis.
Dr. McAuliffe earned his Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of California, Berkeley. He also holds an A.B. in Computer Science, with honors, and an S.M. in Applied Mathematics, both from Harvard University.
McAuliffe discussed his experiences of his educational journey. Furthermore he gave advice and answered questions from our club members. For example a club member asked how he made his business so successful and McAuliffe responded with getting help and a relentless work ethic is vital for a successful business. He guided us in the right direction to prepare for college. Moreover, he advised us to get help and listen closely because the college process is complicated. McAuliffe encouraged us to keep an open mind and to leave a major if we did not like it. Finally, he reassured us that currently not knowing what we want to do for our is totally OK.
