Partnership/Fundraiser with DreamCatchers

Our Mission

In May 2022, LEEC became an official partner of Dream Catchers, a non-profit organization devoted to closing the education opportunity gap in the Palo Alto Unified School District by providing free tutoring to underprivileged middle school students. During the Summer of 2022, LEEC members went door-to-door around Palo Alto and utilized social media outreach to gather support for the fundraiser, raising over $2200 to purchase TI-84 graphing calculators for the organization’s entire graduating class, equipping them for high school STEM courses. Thank you to everyone who contributed to our fundraising efforts!

DreamCatchers states that their goal is “to have students become ‘High School Ready’ by the end of eighth grade. This means being ‘Academically Ready, Task Ready, and Life Ready’”.

With many of our members being DreamCatchers tutors, we heard the words “High School Ready,” but realized many DreamCatchers students lacked the school supplies necessary for high school. As a club, we were inspired to organize a fundraiser for graphing calculators for middle school graduating DreamCatchers students, ultimately resulting in an official partnership. We hope these graphing calculators will enable these students to succeed in high school STEM courses to their fullest extent.

What is Dream Catchers?

Dream catchers is a non-profit organization that helps underprivileged students at Greene Middle School.

DreamCatchers is an after-school tutoring and mentorship program that was created for low-income middle school students in Palo Alto Unified School District. Students are provided with support for homework and academics from a team of hardworking volunteer tutors and DreamCatchers staff. Dream Catchers organizes community building activities and inspires a growth mindset amongst the students. Dream Catchers works with PAUSD teachers and counselors so that, together with parents, they can collaborate as a team to provide customized support for each student.

They say that “DreamCatchers strives to have students become “High School Ready” by the end of eight grade. This means being Academically Ready, Task Ready, and Life Ready“.

Hearing the words “High School Ready” but noticing that some of the students do not have certain supplies has inspired LEEC club to create a partnership with Dream Catchers. As a club we are now raising funds for graphing calculators. We believe that this is a device that will really benefit students because it is a requirement for High School.

About L.E.E.C.

What inspired us to make the club was that all of our friends talked about business ideas and wanted to compete in competitions. We took the initiative to investigate how to make an official and safe place to many host students. We also found that we were tutoring many of my friends for standardized tests such as the SAT and we wanted a place to unite everyone so everyone could share their thoughts and help learn with each other. L.E.E.C gained traction by social media, word of mouth, and this website. As a club we have recruited guest speakers, competed in competitions, gone on trips, discussed and studied together. We try to expand our club members minds and try to provide my club members opportunities for new fields of interests. What we are doing now is looking for more competitions and trips to participate and attend. We are also always trying to increase the size of our community and spread the word about our club.

LEEC is a tier 3 club which is the highest tier of Palo Alto Senior High School. Requirements for a tier 3 club: Meets on campus during school hours, but has or may have several (3 or more) off-campus activities or competitions throughout the year. Some of these events may involve over-night stays or full-day trips requiring district field trip forms and transportation logistics.

Our goal is to unite and inform the community of aspiring leaders and entrepreneurs, within Paly’s student body. We strive to create a friendly environment for everyone. We give detailed presentations about what it takes to become a leader, as well as host discussions, activities, and guest speakers. We promote team bonding by participating in competitions and going on club trips. Come to room 852 on Thursdays at lunch and check it out!
